Holy heck is it ever flattering to be considered in any light alongside Loish!  Thanks for the kind words but really, I’ve got the same insecurities in an opposite way.  I do not have the confidence or attention span to render things very far, so I’ve gravitated to styles that capitalize on the process work, and letting that show through in the final image.  But truthfully, a lot of my lines are added unnecessarily after the process of finding the planes and shapes has been completed, so I’m using that looseness as a crutch sometimes.  Imperfections used in the right way can trick the audience’s minds into producing details for me. I’m just being lazy more than confident!

Have you ever done gestural life drawing, or sketching of passersby in public places?  I found extreme time limitations (30s to 1m drawings) really helped me get comfortable with the types of loose strokes that communicate movements and weight.
